Hello everyone!

Welcome to the first ever post on the new HKCC Manitoulin blog. We hope that this blog will be a useful and informative resource, and that it will help Manitoulin become the healthiest community it can be!

But who am I, anyway?

My name is Vanessa Glasby. I am a born-and-raised Haweater, currently living in Ice Lake. I have recently completed my Master's Degree, and am currently working on a certificate in Sustainable Local Food, which is what led me to HKCC. In addition to being a student, I am also a market gardener; you can expect to see me on Friday mornings at the Gore Bay Farmer's Market during the growing season. I am passionate about good food, and believe it is a human right that everyone is entitled to.

So what will this blog look like?

Great question, and that's partially up to you. I have some ideas of what I would like this blog to include, but I also want to know what you would like to see. What would help you to lead a healthier life? Some ideas I have considered include: tips for stretching your food budget/frugal recipes; healthier versions of favourite recipes; tips for cooking seasonally/what to make with market veggies; how-to videos; tips for growing your own veggies/starting your own garden. These are just some of the ideas I've tossed around, but there could certainly be others that I haven't considered. I would greatly appreciate it if you could take two minutes to fill out this quick survey I've created here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LF3MVP6. It will really help me to get an idea of what resources you would like to see and would be most useful for you. I will use your feedback to tailor this blog to your wants and needs.

Thanks so much for your input! Stay tuned for another post very soon!
